Bunnies!

I created four bunnies in watercolor for the Easter holiday and showed them at the Full Moon Gallery.  Fortunately I sold two, but have these (my favorites) left.  I named them Betty on top and Dotty (lower).  They are framed with a dark blue mat board, and a white frame.  Very fun!  (My images appear to have a different color in the background, but they are the same paper and background color)

 The Takeoff!

I am so happy to announce that my painting The Takeoff has been juried into the annual Idaho Watercolor Society Show!  The painting along with the other forty-nine  semi-finalists will hang in the gallery at the BSU Student Union in June.  The judge,  Ted Nuttal, will be in Boise in early June to review the paintings and choose the top 20.  Awards will be announced virtually, and will be available on the IWS website.
This is very exciting!

PS.  I was painting along the the edges of Flat Creek on the outskirts of Jackson, WY when I was fortunate to see this swan ready for take off.  Happily, I had my camera in hand and got many shots as this beautiful bird took flight.  Somedays, you get lucky!

It is the last week of Art & Soul!

Visit Colliers in downtown Twin Falls to see my entry for Art & Soul.  My entry number is 10-014 if you care to vote!  This piece is called "Camp Host at Gros Ventre".  Gros Ventre is our favorite campground just outside of Jackson, WY.  Lots of moos in camp each year when we visit in the fall.

On a Roll with Yellow Flowers

The only flower color in my yard right now is yellow!  Definitely need to order some tulip bulbs with new colors for next years bloom!  My iris, which I haven't painted, yet, is yellow too.   Not that I'm complaining.  Since we are stuck at home, I am happy to have something to paint!

Camp Host on the Gros Ventre

This gentleman is my entry for Art & Soul this year.  It will be featured at Colliers International in Twin Falls.  They are located downtown in the remodeled building on the corner of 2nd and Shoshone.  You know, up stairs from Milner's Gate restaurant!  Happy to be showing this watercolor in their lovely venue.  The piece will be on display April 10-25.  Stop in for a look at this piece and don't forget to vote at Twin Falls Center for the Arts!

More paintings at Jensen Ringmakers Gallery

Head over to Jensen Ringmakers Gallery in downtown Twin Falls to see these 8" x 8" flowers.  They are framed in 16" x 16" frames with a big wide Matt.  They look pretty cool when they are hung on the wall in a square.  These pieces are the product of my summer of sketching in gardens with a nice group of painters in Ketchum.  Fun times.  Great gardens!

Art & Soul Entry!

This is my entry for Art & Soul this year.   I just dropped it off at Plant Therapy in downtown Twin Falls.  It will be there for the next couple of weeks.  Plant Therapy is a great sponsor of the arts!  They have at least 5-6 other Art & Soul entries on display, and their venue is easy to find.  Stop in to say hello, see the art, and shop the vast array of essential oils they have on display!  510 2nd Ave S.

New Work!

Looking ahead to Easter and painting an Easter bunny or two in my "Wild" style.   Still using India ink and watercolor as my medium of choice.  This bunny lives in the landscape just outside my studio window.  He sneaks in and out of the boxwoods and stays close.  He may end up at the Full Moon Gallery in the day or so!

Hawk!

Added this HAWK to the collection at the Full Moon Gallery today.  I got an up close and personal look at this beautiful bird when visiting a Forest Service booth at an art fair.  He was gorgeous and aware.  Surprising that he was not bothered by the crowds.  He simply observed and looked regal.

Wild series

These images are from my new "Wild" series.  Drawing with ink using the dropper right out of the Higgins India ink bottle has been a freeing experience.  Some splatter and rich watercolor pigment makes for bold images.

New Work!

Had a wonderful crowd at the Full Moon Gallery opening last night!  It was good to see old friends and new.  Thanks for being there and wishing the artists well!

This watercolor piece, that is part of my "Wild" series, is hanging at the Twin Falls Center for the Arts in the lobby gallery.  I call it my "wild series" since I am using a new technique to add more flow and rhythm to my work and it gets a bit wild with ink going where it wants and dripping as I refill!  I use an India ink dropper to do the drawing and add dense watercolor to get the deep colors.  Drawing with a dropper does not let me get the tight drawings that I usually do and it loosens up the flowers.   I think gives them some movement and life.  More of this series to come in the future!

I'm back! Been a long time since I posted!

Gallery Opening at the Twin Falls Center for the Arts on Thursday, Nov. 15 from 5-7p.m.

Come and see my new watercolor paintings in the Full Moon Gallery.
This sunflower piece is on display along with my other new  ink and watercolor pieces.  The painting is large, 22"x30" watercolor paper and even bigger with mat and frame.  It is part of my "WILD" series.  Time to break out of old habits and try something new.  I am using India ink to do the drawing with wide sweeps and splotches, and adding watercolor to the piece.  Great fun!

Painting the Henry's Fork

We were fortunate to spend time in June on the Henry's Fork in Island Park.  We camped and fished and painted with our friends the Smiths.  We had another wonderful, memorable time that included great meals, wonderful scenery, and plenty of painting time.  The wildflowers were unbelievable this year!  Fields of Mules Ear stretched to the mountains.  Unbelievable display!

The Art & Soul contest is in full swing here in Twin Falls.  My piece above is on display at Premier Auto on Pole Line Road.  It is a great venue and I am so thankful for their dedication to art in the Magic Valley. They have 16 pieces in their lobby area!  Stop by to see a good variety of art.

Day 27! Late Post - Better Late than Not at All!

We have been to Montana and back, but I am determined to post to make my 30 in 30 Challenge goal even though it is late and I am tired!

This little 4x4 canvas piece is a look down our lane at one of the houses in our neighborhood.  It was fun to finally do a painting of it since I see it most days and have thought about painting it for a long time.

Day 21!

Amazing that we are already at Day 21 of the 30 in 30 Challenge!  Today's post is another 5" x 5" piece done on a birch block covered with Watercolor Ground.  Watercolor Ground enables me to use my favorite medium but use an alternate support.  And the bonus, no glass is needed!  It sits nicely on my bookshelf or easel.  I personally like the finished look of the wood edges.  The question is do I stain the wood or leave the natural birch color?

Day 19! Snow, Snow, Wonderful Snow

And it showed again last night!  The 30 in 30 Challenge theme I chose, Winter Scenes, does not lack for material to paint.  This scene is the view out our condo window in Elkhorn.  So beautiful, so amazing the amount of snow this year.

Also, Happy Birthday to little Miss Mae who turns two today!

Day 16!

The Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge is pushing me to paint every day.  I am appreciating the discipline and frankly that January cold that keeps me in the studio.  This is another small piece I did at my 2nd Tuesday painting group the other day.  Painting ahead helps to take some of the pressure off since the painting I did yesterday still needs work or a do over!
